Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment

Osteopathic Manipulative TreatmentDoctors of Osteopathic Medicine are trained to partner with patients to help them get healthy and stay well. From their first days of osteopathic training, DOs learn to see an interrelated unity among all systems of the body, each working with the other to heal in times of illness. DOs are trained in the art of listening and communicating with their patients, giving them a deep understanding of how lifestyle and environmental factors can influence wellbeing. Completing four years of osteopathic medical school, DOs acquire advanced skills in providing preventive, comprehensive care.

Compared to allopathic doctors (MDs), DOs receive over 200 additional hours in special training of the musculoskeletal system, your body’s interconnected system of nerves, muscles and bones. DOs use this knowledge to perform Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), a series of hands-on techniques used to help diagnose illness or injury and facilitate the body’s natural tendency toward self-healing.

Using OMT, your DO can effectively treat your muscles and joints to relieve pain, promote healing and increase overall mobility. Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment is often used to treat muscle pain, but it can also help provide relief for patients with asthma, sinus disorders, ear pain, TMJ, migraines, constipation and more. In many cases, OMT can be used to complement, or even replace drugs or surgery.

At your first appointment, we will focus on taking a thorough history of your illness/injury and completing a head to toe osteopathic evaluation. I am very passionate about performing Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment and have helped many patients in the office already!
